With a contagious smile Bob welcomed me to his studio. Sitting on a comfortable couch watching his beautiful and amazingly crisp HD (high definition) videos on the large HD monitor, I realized how far video technology has come. Bob, too, remembers the modest quality of video when he started Video Madness back in 1989. With a degree in film, and photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology, and a music degree from the renowned Eastman School of Music, he could not be more qualified for his endeavor. While I marveled about the clarity and sharpness of the video, Bob told me that the HD camera shoots at a resolution 4 times higher than its predecessors. In one video he pointed out the different elements in the stained glass windows at the Stanford Chapel: "I shot these from the balcony across the church; with the old camera I didn't see any details at all." Another proof of the high quality of this new technology are the magazine-style photo albums made from HD video captures, which Bob now offers. While these don't yet equal the quality of actual photographs, clients can select the most beautiful, unusual, and surprising photographs from thousands of frames (30/second).
Video Madness is a full-time, full-service, digital videography company with a crew of four editors. Bob recruits his staff from film schools and personally trains them to shoot and edit He makes sure that his crew is low-key on the job. "There are no cords on the floor and hardly any additional lights, because the less visible we are, the more the bride and groom can be the center of attention." Raw footage can be edited to portray a romantic wedding story or crisper wedding reportage. An additional service Bob offers is a video clip of the ceremony premiered during the reception. "Only I edit these highlights; the preciseness and pace at which it must be completed can be stressful," he told me.
One event coordinator commented, "It is always a pleasure and a relief knowing that Video Madness will be videotaping one of my client's weddings. Their low profile and discreet manners are surpassed only by their beautifully captured videos. Bob's editing of the music to certain moments and emotions is always done with extreme care." One client remarked: "The only time I remember him being there was when he was either making me laugh or comforting me." A groom commented: "I didn't realize a videographer was filming until we were presented with the final tape. He captured everything!" |
