The Opera House was built in 1904 as a site for social and civic events for the Los Gatos area. About 10 years later it became a well-known department store, which eventually grew into a large emporium of antique wares.
The extensive and careful remodeling after the 1906 earthquake left the unique pressed-metal walls intact and still displaying 15 different motifs. The building holds the largest collection of original pressed-metal in California. Among other artistic designs from the founder’s era, the Bradbury wallpaper above the staircase certainly adds to the splendor. A specialist revived the old art of using up to 20 patterns of wallpaper to create an authentic Victorian design. Now, once again, the Opera House is a distinctive place for elegant events.
This banquet facility, over 7,000 square feet in size, is among the larger ones in the area. Its two levels, separated by approximately 10 steps, prevent smaller groups from feeling lost. A large, authentic cocktail bar with a removable dance floor graces the lower level. An elegant dressing room is available for brides. With skylights brightening the facility, it is just as beautiful during the daytime as it is in the evening. An awning over the door offers protection from the rain, and a roomy elevator takes you to the second level.
Since large events would completely block downtown Los Gatos, valet parking is mandatory in the month of December. You can have your ceremony at the Opera House for an additional $1,300 , which includes a wedding consultant and setup. An event coordinator will assist you with all the details and arrangements.
