One of the most beautiful places in the Bay Area is Nestldown, an 80 -acre private estate in the Santa Cruz Mountains. I had seen many pictures but they can't compare to the beauty one experiences when visiting this enchanted place. "Pristine" and "immaculate" are two adjectives that immediately spring to mind. Walk down the path through a shaded garden, underneath towering redwoods to the Chapel, next to a small lake where most ceremonies take place. Enjoy a stroll through the beautifully maintained garden and lawn area along the pond, the small waterfall, and the many flowerbeds displaying the flowers of the season. Thousands of colorful tulips were blooming when I visited in mid-spring.

Summer receptions are usually set up on the lawn area and can accommodate up to 350 guests, while dancing takes place in the "Barn" ballroom. This is the latest addition to the property with a capacity of 150 guests. The beautiful wooden structure, with the cathedral-like ceiling and large fireplace, blends perfectly into the landscape. There is built-in lighting on the pathways and a sound system for cocktail or dinner music. Tables and chairs are included with the rental. An antique London taxi cab takes bridal party and gifts from the parking area to the celebration site, and a golf cart is available for those needing assistance.

While we sat on the back porch of the "Barn," Brooke Greene, the events manager, recounted the history of Nestldown. The property originally was a working fruit ranch used by a family as their weekend home. The owners of Netstldown, hoping to create a wonderland for their children to enjoy, built carefully around the existing apple, peach and persimmon orchards. When it first opened to the public, the intent was to offer the estate to non-profit organizations from the local community, with particular interest in those organizations whose serviced population could come and enjoy the facility.

Small surprises are found at every corner. The antique train that surrounds the orchard offers rides for your guests. The Fantasy Cottage, a sizable children's playhouse, which reminds me of Alice in Wonderland, is perfect for the young and young at heart. "Adults seem to like it as much as the children," Brooke told me. There are trails throughout the property. a designated space for bocce ball and so much more. Overlooking the farm is the Nestldown guest cottage, which can be rented separately and occupied by eight guests.
