When I arrived at the old orchard farm house, Scott was on the phone. He had just booked a birthday trip with Silver Goblet Service of client-selected champagne. A husband wanted to surprise his wife with a tour to Napa Valley. Now Scott was in the process of ordering a 4 foot tall arrangement of black magic roses from his favorite florist. Later, while trying the seating in all three of the luxury limos, I experienced how easily such a large bouquet could fit into the extra space between front and passenger seats. "You will find all the information on our detailed website," he told me when I admired the 1953 Silver Wraith Rolls-Royce Touring Salon Limousine, the 1955 Silver Wraith Rolls-Royce Diplomatic Limousine, and the 1977 Silver Jubilee Rolls-Royce Stretch Limousine. Each Rolls Royce offers carefully retro-fitted passenger compartment air conditioning and a passenger-controlled state-of-the-art sound system.
Over coffee I learned that the former telco engineer took early retirement. With time on his hands, he started to drive for an airport limousine service. Soon he found out that the focus on corporate driving was not the right thing for him. "I am a people person," he told me, "and I love working with private clients who appreciate personal service." In his different jobs, prior to starting his own company, Scott learned what he could do better and how he could serve the clients best. Now he helps with preliminary timelines, offers split services for weddings, and special deals after hours. His cars are not only spotlessly clean but perfectly serviced. Before each job each driver is supplied with an information package in which all details are described and the route is mapped out, even though his drivers are familiar with the area.
He proudly showed me several original cut crystal ceiling lights he had bought in Los Angeles for a horrendous price. They will be installed in his recently acquired 1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca De Ville formal limousine. These lights were missing when the car arrived for restoration. This beauty will be ready for use in the 2006 wedding season. "When someone rents my cars, I want them to have a one-of-a-kind experience. They should feel like royalty," he told me, and with a twinkle in the eye he added: "We are not responsible for major changes in attitude, after being driven in any one of our Rolls-Royces."
