"A picture is worth a thousand words," says the introduction to his website, and that certainly applies to Kevin and his work. Quiet and modest, he doesn't really like to talk about himself and his achievements. However, his photographs on the wall of his sun-drenched loft and his beautiful website tell you right away what a great artist he is.
As a small boy he loved taking pictures and carried his camera around all the time. Then there was the first wedding he captured at the age of 16. After that his future as a photographer was pre-destined. "I am all self-taught," he told me, "all you need is a creative eye." Kevin certainly had that "eye" and established his own style before he became a member of Professional Photographers of America, whose meetings and seminars he attends.
I loved looking at his pictures; his wedding portraits are defined by their natural beauty. The couples look into the camera, but it seems they just happened to glance at the camera and no posing was involved. In one of my favorite pictures, a couple is sitting on a flight of stairs, her bridal bouquet is placed next to them; the train of the bride's wedding dress flows naturally down the stairs instead of being arranged, while her new husband hugs her from behind. Another one of my favorites shows a large part of the church door. Your eyes are drawn through the relatively small window along the aisle framing the couple in front of the altar.
In his portfolio you find pictures taken from unusual perspectives, beautiful environmental portraits, and journalistic recordings of the celebrations. His work is in color as well as in black and white. Kevin also loves wedding assignments which involve travel to foreign countries. These have taken him to Italy, France, Thailand and just recently to Peru where he photographed a wedding in January.
Kevin's work is offered in handmade portfolio boxes or museum albums which hold 20 archival mats displaying either one large or two smaller photographs per page. Both boxes and albums are of museum quality and finished in beautiful silk, they have a very distinctive look.
