When asked how she became an Interfaith Minister, Heron had only one word: serendipity! Many years ago when Heron’s husband passed away, she felt compelled to write a ceremony to honor him and pay tribute to his life. Afterwards, her family, colleagues and friends told Heron it was the most beautiful and meaningful ceremony they had ever heard and that it touched them deeply.  It was then that Heron realized she had a passion and gift for creating ceremonies for the important passages in people’s lives.

Today, Heron is one of the highly respected professionals in the wedding industry. Her fun and energetic nature, along with her heart of gold and genuine kindness, make her the ideal celebrant for couples to trust and to turn to for the most important part of their wedding day -- the ceremony.

Heron thoroughly enjoys meeting the couples and getting to know them on an intimate level. She sees her role as a collaborator with the promise that they will create the most meaningful ceremony they can imagine. First, she gives them some original ceremonies she has written and a large file of wedding readings and poems she has collected. Then, she encourages bride and groom to have as much input as they would like in creating their ceremony, with the assurance that she will assist them.  Heron believes it is the process of consciously creating their ceremony that will help keep the bride and groom focused on what is really important at this time -- their love and their new commitment. It not only will make the ceremony more powerful, but it can also serve as a blueprint and an inspiration for the rest of their lives.

After the initial meeting, Heron likes to see the couple at least once more before the ceremony to become better acquainted. By the wedding day, Heron hopes they have developed a budding friendship. It is important to her that all three feel a strong emotional connection, so that during the ceremony the couple knows that they have someone standing before them who cares and wants this moment to be as “splendiferous” as they do.

Heron considers herself a “painter of words,” knowing that they create a visceral response in us, and, at this time, words must only convey a sense of lightness, gratitude and celebration. With her rich imagination, her love for words, and her deep sensitivity, she strives to make what is “painted” on the "ceremony canvas” just that.

On the wedding day, Heron always arrives early and dresses beautifully to coordinate with the colors and formality of the event. Her sweet smile, calm demeanor, and comforting voice make even the most nervous couple feel relaxed. Her highly personalized ceremonies, always full of life, love and joy, are delivered with warmth, grace, and, often, appropriate humor.

In addition to weddings, Heron also creates other “works of heart” such as renewals of vows, baby blessings, special birthdays, life celebrations, and memorials. She offers counseling as well to individuals and couples.

Heron feels blessed to have found her “right livelihood” in which she is able to do what she loves and be of service to others. With her rich imagination and theatrical talents; her psychological, religious, and cultural studies, along with a myriad of life experiences and her deep sensitivity, she is well suited to help people of many different religions, traditions, and lifestyles create a meaningful and beautiful celebration for the important passages in their lives.
