When Marivic first welcomed me into her bright, spacious home studio, I immediately felt surrounded by a creative energy. Marivic eagerly showed me a tabletop setting she recently designed for a July 7, 2007 wedding, the popular date known as 777. Her design was so well crafted that Channel 2 came over to film it for a special edition they were doing on 777 weddings.
A dedicated mother of three children, Marivic spent a lot of time and effort over the past ten years creating unique and fun invitations for their birthdays and other special occasions. After much encouragement from friends and family, Marivic began her invitation company 4 years ago in an effort to turn passion into career. Since then, it has blossomed into a very successful business, featured on both KRON and KTVU.
Marivic’s designs are customized for each couple. When she meets with them, she asks insightful questions about their wedding to get a thorough understanding of their vision. She then works with them to design something personalized and extraordinary, often incorporating embellishments to create interesting texture. Currently, she is sourcing exotic paper from foreign continents, such as Asia, and expanding her line to include silk paper, dupioni boxes, and scroll invitations.
When asked what keeps her inspired, Marivic had one simple answer: Everything! From parks to books to magazines to her children, Marivic absorbs anything and everything around her daily life and takes that as her inspiration for her creative designs. She recently was honored by the Invitation and Stationery Alliance as one of twenty finalists in the first annual eNVee Honors at the National Stationery Show in New York City.
In the short time that I spent with Marivic, I could vividly sense her passion and enthusiasm for her business. She truly loves what she does, and you can see that spark in her eyes when she proudly talks about her happy clients. Without any formal training in graphic design, what she designs and produces is very professional.
Marivic also offers letterpress and calligraphy services. The turnaround time for her custom invitations is typically 5 to 7 weeks. All of her clients receive a complementary set of Thank You cards to send to their guests. That is just one of the many things that Marivic does to show her appreciation to her clients.
