Maralyn has been making wedding and customized cakes since 1986. One of her
signature cakes, a butter cream cake, was pictured on the cover of the 6th
edition of our guide. Including architectural elements in many of her
creations, she has replicated the Empire State Building, the Great American
Music Hall, and a Buddhist temple in Nepal where one couple had met. She has
even done a cake that looks like a chocolate Chagall painting. Brides have
asked her to incorporate their wedding gowns or invitations into the
cake's design. She has done beautiful work matching lace appliqué. Some of her
other cakes that I fell in love with include one with chocolate music notes
and instruments such as saxophone and guitars. Another featured different sized
gold stars all over it, and an elegant white cake was covered with intricate sugar
stephanotis, roses, and orchids.
Some of Maralyn's most popular cakes are chocolate truffle, Italian cream,
almond, and cheesecake. I was able to taste her
frosted wedding cake cookies that make perfect favors. Besides cakes and
cookies, Maralyn makes a variety of desserts like petits fours, fruit
tartlets, and swan profiteroles. She is the only one I know who makes a Kosher cake under strict
Orthodox supervision; in fact, all her products are kosher.
Maralyn inherited her passion for baking from her mother. She bakes every cake
from scratch and is happy to use a family recipe or to look for a special one.
She offers the option of a supplementary sheet cake for larger parties. She believes in a very thorough consultation and works closely with
the bride and groom to coordinate the cake with the wedding theme. Her clients
commented: "The best I've ever had, and I got so many compliments from my
friends," and "Maralyn is so accommodating." She is also highly respected by
other event professionals.
