Gowns

  • Strapless gowns remain the favorite, even though spaghetti straps and cap sleeves are being seen more often
  • Mostly cream and ivory colors with emphasis on adventurous textures such as lace
  • A colorful sash
  • Less emphasis on train and veil
  • Bride changes into a party gown after the ceremony
  • Colored attendants' gowns
  • Bride's shoes don't need to be white. She changes shoes after ceremony into something more comfortable. Remember to take the dress length into consideration when choosing the comfortable shoes.
  • The bridesmaids' dress color can vary within a range, allowing the style to also vary

Event Design

  • Creative and personal (see: Somewhere over the Rainbow)
  • Mixture of ethnic and new customs
  • Lounge-style bars remain fashionable
  • Different looks at different spaces, such as where the toast is made, where appetizers are offered, and the dancing area
  • Mixture of tables
  • Interior room design in an outdoor setting
  • Draping and piping, giving a tied-back curtain effect, to cover entry ways between rooms; sometimes large mirrors are placed over the drapings
  • Decorating with light: pink and amber spotlights to enhance colors, textures and complexions
  • Sit-down dinner inner party experiences
  • Attention to personal space: eight guests instead of ten at a round table
  • Food stations with different ethnic foods so that guests can float around
  • Dessert bar, sushi bar, ethnic stations where guests can converse
  • Dessert buffets, chocolate, cookies and milk instead of a wedding cake, making the dessert a focal point with a dessert chef creating chocolate fusion cake
  • Assemble your own favors

Flowers - Colors - Design

  • Favorites are roses, mini calla lilies, cymbidium orchids, peonies, and old fashioned, hard-to-find flowers
  • Eclectic and unexpected color combinations, such as fuchsia and purple, green and violet, combinations of yellows and white
  • Colors still follow the seasons: fresh and softer tones in the spring; deeper colors in late summer and fall
  • Adventurous in flowers, materials, texture
  • Crystals, velvets ribbons, and heirloom pieces, such as a brooch or a hanky are added

Drinks

  • Martinis are the signature cocktail, including pomegranate martinis. Signature drinks depend on the preference of the couple more than on the color theme.
  • Cosmopolitan and fruity drinks are also popular
  • Nonalcoholic drinks made of the same ingredients minus the alcohol
  • Champagne cocktails in traditional flutes (back to the '40s)

Venue

  • City weddings
  • Winery weddings or weddings on private properties, such as a meadow overlooking the ocean

Photography

  • Inspired by celebrity trends, to reflect an affluent lifestyle, often of casual grace
  • Candid/photojournalistic or artistic pictures
  • manipulations though photoshop
  • Digital photography is the standard, with magazine-style albums and prints available online
  • Rich colors
  • Coffee table books
  • Album covers in splashy colors

Video

  • Live broadcast of ceremony over the Internet
  • High definition, recorded in surround sound
  • Delivered on DVD and on iPod
  • More cinematic, less documentary
