The Traditional Italian Wedding Favor

Italian wedding favors
Wedding almonds are a traditional treat for wedding guests in Europe, especially in Italy and Spain. This custom originated in the royal courts, where almonds rolled in honey were given away in jars of pure silver, gold, or crystal. Ordinary folk came up with a less expensive wrapping, using the net lace left over from making the bridal dress. The almonds were wrapped in the small pieces of net lace which was decorated with bows and flowers.

Almonds symbolize life because life can be sweet and bitter like the almond itself.

Nowadays one wraps exactly five wedding almonds together to which a small tag is attached to present to the bride and groom. Each almond symbolizes a wish addressed to the Wedding almonds for wedding planningbridal couple: health, happiness, wealth, children, and a long life. These almonds are traditionally white in color, but are also available in pink and blue.  At the end of the day each guest receives one box of sugared almonds as a “Thank you!” and a memory to take home. You can also use the tags as name tags. Here are two examples of what you can write to the bride and groom.

Five sugared Almonds for every guest,
Thinking of Life being both, bitter and sweet
Five wishes for the newly weds:
Health, happiness, wealth, children and a long life!

These five sugared Almonds stand for:
Health, happiness, wealth, children and a long life –
This is what we wish for the bridal couple and you!

I am sure you will like this sweet inspiration.
