In the Middles Ages the unity candle was an integral part in every wedding ceremony because it was meant to lift the prayers of the bridal couple up to heaven. If carried into the church by the bride, or nowadays by a little flower girl, the evil spirits will be kept away. The love of the newlyweds must be just like the candle: shine brilliantly and warm the hearts of fellowman and the guests.
The typical unity candle is carried with Christian symbols, such as the rood, along with a pair of doves and two golden rings that symbolize the togetherness of bride and groom.
A very special gift is the self-designed and individual wedding candle. If you buy the candle, than don’t forget to have the names and the wedding dates engraved.
The candle should be lit every time there are problems in the family, arguments to be solved, etc. But the candle should be lit also in good times, such as when a child is born. A very special and important moment should be celebrated and thought of, even when something wonderful just happens. The unity candle will “light” your way.
Lots of light love to you,
