Getting Married Before the Kids Arrive

from Britta Maria Eugen, our wedding coordinator in Austria

Many couples in Europe are getting married in a civil ceremony when they realize that the wife is pregnant. The ceremony in church and a larger reception will often celebrated later.

On Christmas Eve 2007, Sascha proposed to Kristina and, of course, she said YES!
As she was already pregnant, they wanted to marry before Kristina gave birth so the wedding planning had to adhere to a tight timetable.

Kristina had wanted a large church wedding, but feeling queasy, with a body not in shape for her dream wedding dress, and not being able to party on with friends and family, the decision was made to have a civil ceremony with only close family members.

To make the celebration as romantic as possible, the couple decided to marry in Salzburg, Austria – the city of Mozart – in one of the most beautiful castles and registries. They married on April 18th, 2008.

As you can see from the photos, the ambiance was perfect, along with the lovely weather. The guests appeared to be enjoying themselves at the luncheon at a gourmet restaurant. The first wishes, greeting cards and gifts were presented.  Before the wedding cake (another surprise!) was served, a nice walk in the beautiful landscape was on the program.

This small but exclusive wedding shows that having only a civil ceremony still plants lovely memories in hearts and minds. It is more intimate and personal, with an eye for small details but still lots of love.

Lots of luck for your future together, Kristina and Sascha!!

Update: Benedikt was born 8 weeks later.
