This beautiful, Tudor-style mansion is one of the great houses on the Peninsula. It is situated on 40 secluded acres and is a perfect setting for every special event. It was built over a period of two years by Frederick Kohl and his wife, Elizabeth, who hosted its first party, a Christmas party in 1914. In 1931 the mansion was bought by the Sisters of Mercy and converted into a school, which is still in operation today. Terri and Dianne, the mansion’s new event professionals, will help you to with every aspect of planning your celebration.
Inside the Kohl, several rooms flow into each other on the ground floor, adding to the site’s versatility. The elegant Library often is used for smaller receptions. The wood-paneled Great Hall, with its vaulted ceiling, huge fireplace, and wall-to-wall windows, has fine acoustics and is perfect for receptions, chamber music, and drama. In contrast to the paneled hall, the neighboring Dining Room and Morning Room are very light and airy. The large changing rooms for bride and groom are decorated with antiques. Recently updated refinished floors, new draperies and a modern full kitchen maintain the original splendor of the mansion. During the Christmas season, clients can take advantage of the mansion’s beautiful holiday decorations. The grounds also include a swimming pool and tennis, basketball, and volleyball courts, which are available separately for picnics from May to November.
For weddings and corporate or private parties, the Kohl is available on weekdays after 3 p.m. and on weekends. Ceremonies can be held indoors or out in the garden, making the mansion popular year round. You are well advised to book early. The well known site, which has been featured on the cable television show A Wedding Story, even has many mid-week dates selling out.
